| M/cycle industry growing at 30% |
During 2006-05 above 700,000 motorcycles were produced in Pakistan . The industry is experiencing a healthy annual growth of around 30% for past 5 years. It is estimated that production will cross the million units mark by 2008.
The Competitiveness Sup-port Fund, a joint venture of Pakistani government, Minis-try of Finance and US Agency for International Development (USAID) will carry out policy analysis on competitive advantages of motorcycles in Pakistan .
CSF will conduct various studies on global competitiveness of selected economic sectors to examine their performance and where it can be improved, said a statement. First sector selected by the fund is motorcycle industry in Pakistan .
Presently, there are 43 motorcycle assemblers in the country, licensed by the Engineering Development Board. Out of these, there are 3 Japanese assemblers i.e. Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki), while the remaining 40 assemble Chinese motorcycles. These assemblers buy parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies from over 200 large, medium and small vendors located in Karachi and Lahore . |
